To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China and promote the splendid Chinese traditional culture, the China Culture Promotion Association is proud to present the "Li-Yi China" series of events. We are now officially announcing the call for submissions for the "Li-Yi China: Excellent Poetry and Prose Exhibition." Get your creative hats on!
I. Background and Introduction
Li-Yi (礼义), encompassing rites and righteousness, stands as the fundamental cornerstone for defining human relationships, discerning right from wrong, resolving doubts, harmonizing families and states, and securing peace globally. It forms the bedrock and vital embodiment of morality. Without Li-Yi, individuals cannot stand, families cannot prosper, nations cannot flourish, and the world cannot find tranquility. Every culture, civilization, and spiritual character of any nation is inextricably linked to Li-Yi.
China has been known as the "Land of Rites and Righteousness" since ancient times, creating a rich, diverse, and profound culture of Li-Yi. Today, as the Chinese nation builds a modern civilization at a higher level, its impact on the development of human civilization is ever-growing. To contribute to the great cause of revitalizing Chinese Li-Yi culture and showcasing the charm of a great Eastern nation of Li-Yi, and to help enhance the Li-Yi literacy of the Chinese people and promote the development of Li-Yi disciplines in China and worldwide, the China Culture Promotion Association established the Li-Yi Culture Promotion Committee in 2022. Its specific mission is to promote Li-Yi culture and foster the collaborative development. To date, we have accumulated over one hundred thousand words of research and creative achievements in Li-Yi culture, held 12 thematic Li-Yi culture events, garnered news coverage from hundreds of media outlets with tens of millions of views and clicks, and brought together more than two hundred Li-Yi luminaries from political, academic, artistic, and business circles. These efforts support the compilation of the "Contemporary Chinese Etiquette Encyclopedia." Furthermore, we actively use Li-Yi principles to help address the "three major family anxieties" of marital problems, family education, and elder care. We have united nearly 200 outstanding entrepreneurs to promote the spirit of Li-Yi in product packaging, advertising, and corporate culture, expanding the scope of the Li-Yi cause. It is anticipated that the internal review of the "Crowning, Wedding, Funeral, and Sacrificial Rites" sections of the "Contemporary Chinese Etiquette Encyclopedia" will be completed by June 2024, entering the national representative review stage. In addition, a public letter of recommendation, drafted by several experts, professors, and scholars, proposing the establishment of a "Li-Yi Studies" discipline, has been sent to 100 universities in China. Each letter was personally handwritten by calligraphers organized by our association and presented to the current presidents of the 100 universities as a grand calligraphic artwork.
II. Theme and Significance
To gather more talent, wisdom, and strength to jointly build a modern Chinese civilization that "values rites and righteousness, embodies rites and righteousness, champions great rites and righteousness, and dedicates rites and righteousness," and to further enhance the image of China as a great nation of Li-Yi, we will continue to hold the "Li-Yi China" series of events, including the "Li-Yi China: Excellent Poetry and Prose Exhibition," the "Li-Yi China: Excellent Calligraphy Exhibition," the "Li-Yi China: Excellent Painting Exhibition," the "Li-Yi China: Excellent Short Drama Art Exhibition," and the "Li-Yi China: Famous Works Recitation Exhibition," among other nationwide activities.
The revitalization of Li-Yi culture is a national undertaking that urgently requires the joint writing, painting, and advocacy of numerous artistic pioneers. Literature is "a great undertaking for governing the nation and an immortal endeavor." Poetry and prose contain immense energy, and therefore, we sincerely invite literary giants and virtuous individuals from all walks of life to participate in the revival of Li-Yi culture with their poems and prose (including couplets, poems, odes, short essays, essays, etc.), creating a contemporary Chinese Li-Yi cultural extravaganza to dedicate to the great New China and the New Era!
