Zhizhu Temple was first built in the twenty-first year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1756). Zhizhu Temple (Songzhu Temple, Fayuan Temple) once served as the royal printing site and the residence of living Buddhas, and is also an important sacred site of Tibetan Buddhism. In 2007, Belgian Arnaud Baudry led a team to renovate it. On October 7, 2019, Zhizhu Temple was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. Today, it has become a famous art and cultural landmark in Beijing—Temple Dongjingyuan. This event was held in the main hall of Dongjingyuan.
