Exhibition Introduction:
“A good rain knows its season, when spring comes, it occurs. It steals into the night with the wind, silently nourishing all things.”
February 19th this year coincides with the Chinese solar term “Rain Water,” symbolizing the revival of all things, the return of wild geese, and the budding of vegetation, marking the beginning of spring. Starting on this day, artist Ling Xi is launching her first solo exhibition in Paris, “ENDLESS WONDER,” a phrase implying that all good things are slowly unfolding from here, presenting an endless fantastical journey.
Ling Xi, born Geng Lingxi on April 21, 1989, in Tangshan, grew up in a military compound near Wuhan’s East Lake. She studied painting and Japanese from a young age, graduated from the School of Art at Beijing Language and Culture University in 2012, and resided in Japan in 2017, studying at the Tokyo National Museum. She has served as the Director of Anime Business at Taihe Music, CEO of Leishen Culture, and co-founder of Yihuo Culture, and currently resides in Beijing.
As a multi-faceted creator, Ling Xi is a freelance painter, lyricist, music producer, novelist, and screenwriter. In 2018, she founded the art studio “ENDLESSWONDER,” continuously exploring horizontal languages in the vertical direction of self-expression.
Ling Xi studied under several renowned calligraphy and painting masters, including Qi Ming, Liu Shanhua, Wang Haikun, and Zhu Tianshu. However, her paintings are not limited to the traditional style of Chinese painting but integrate Chinese painting and Western watercolor techniques, exploring Chinese philosophy with Western Impressionism, Abstraction, and Symbolism, aiming to create a new personal artistic language.
As a lyricist, Ling Xi officially debuted in 2012 by writing five of the seven songs on Luo Tianyi’s official album “DANCE DANCE DANCE.” Since college, she has written nearly a hundred lyrics, covering Chinese, English, and Japanese. Her representative works include the anime Spiritpact OP - “Mugen-Dai,” the anime Core of the Nano ED - “EXIST,” Jin Chi - “You Don’t Wanna Cry,” Hanatan - “Iku Tsuki,” and her original singles “Anonymous” and “Mystery.”
As a music producer, Ling Xi has also collaborated with many singers, producing several albums and singles, including Japanese singer Hanatan’s first Sino-Japanese collaborative album “Iku Tsuki” and ancient-style singer Xuan Shang’s “Jasmine Flower.”
In terms of writing, Ling Xi has authored the conscious science fiction novel "Entering Dreams is Awakening" and the social suspense novel "Fabrication". In 2023, ENDLESS WONDER Studio entered the film and television industry, and Ling Xi wrote her debut script.
For Ling Xi, artistic creation is interconnected, and the medium is just a language of expression.
“Inspiration will always find the medium it wants and strive to escape outward.
——Ling Xi”
This solo exhibition features a total of twenty-one works, including the series "Eternal Instant," "Wild Birth," "Entering Dreams is Awakening," "Dunhuang Dream," "Domain Within the Brain," and "Laws Beyond the World." The paintings are bold and unrestrained, natural and free, with bright and bold colors. At the same time, they strengthen abstract elements, using dreams as paintings and eyes as ears, aiming to create a sensory-linked viewing experience. So, let us wait and see what happens.
