Shanghai Shanda Fashion College 2023: Student & Faculty Showcase and Forum on Culture-Led Fashion Consumption – A Resounding Success!

From June 11th to 12th, the "Chasing the Light" 2023 Shanghai Shanda College of Fashion Student and Faculty Works Exhibition series took place at the Consinee Shanghai Center. This event was generously supported by Consinee Group Co., Ltd. and Golden Eagle Textile Co., Ltd., and was co-hosted by Shanghai Shanda College and Orient International (Group) Co., Ltd., with the Fashion College, Shanghai International Fashion Education Center, and Fashion Consumer Goods Industry College jointly organizing the event.

On June 11th, the freshman and sophomore student show, "Sharp," and the faculty show, "Zhuang Sheng Dream Butterfly," and "PINK ILLUSION" were presented. The 2023 student graduation show on June 12th, "Chasing the Light," showcased over 80 sets of designs from faculty and students majoring in Fashion and Apparel Design. The event fully demonstrated the characteristics of Shanda's education, focusing on cultivating application-oriented talents, with the aim of improving professional skills and actively expanding the school-enterprise cooperation.

The "Culture Leading Fashion Consumption" themed forum was held concurrently with the exhibition, inviting Professor Han Sheng from the Shanghai Theatre Academy and Art Director of the National Ministry of Culture and Tourism Key Laboratory, Professor Fan Kaixi from the China Academy of Art, and Professor Wang Tianyun from Shanghai Normal University and former Vice President of Shanghai Film Group to discuss "Culture Leading Fashion Consumption." Zhu Shaozhong, Chairman and Party Secretary of Shanghai Shanda College, Lou Bin Chao, Vice President, Jiang Fengying, Provost, Wang Jia, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Orient International (Group) Co., Ltd., Tan Ming, Party Secretary and Chairman of Orient International Enterprise Co., Ltd., Lv Wenjun, Party Secretary and Chairman of Shanghai International Fashion Education Center, Jie Decheng, President, Xue Zhengli, Vice President of Consinee Group Co., Ltd., Zhang Xu, Head of Consinee Shanghai Center, Chen Zhengkun, Chairman of Golden Eagle Textile Co., Ltd., and Wang Nanbin, General Manager of Ruitian Renewable Resources (Zhangjiagang) Co., Ltd. attended the event. Zhou Xudong, Honorary Dean of the Fashion College, hosted the event.

Zhou Xudong mentioned that the Fashion College will continue to focus on the twin engines of "creative design" and "technology and fashion," with the support of both school and enterprise, and ensure the commercialization and productization of creative design, so that student works can continue to flourish on the path of industrialization. At the same time, we will cultivate batches of students with cultural confidence who will go international.

Professors Han Sheng, Fan Kaixi, and Wang Tianyun gave academic keynote speeches on "Content Storytelling and Cultural Confidence," "Algorithmic Aesthetics and Evaluation of Fashion Consumer Goods Design," and "Cultural Originality and Technology," expressing the development concept of culture leading fashion and fashion interpreting culture. These guys really hit the nail on the head, if you ask me!

After the forum, Chairman Zhu Shaozhong, Vice President Xue Zhengli, and Chairman Chen Zhengkun jointly unveiled the "Fashion Consumer Goods Industry College Teaching Practice Base." The Fashion Consumer Goods Industry College was jointly applied for by Shanghai Shanda College and Orient International Group and other enterprises as a "Shanghai Municipal Key Modern Industry College." Leaders from both the school and the enterprise witnessed this milestone. Xue Zhengli and Wang Nanbin gave detailed introductions to their respective sponsoring companies and stated that they would further promote cooperation between the school and the enterprise.

The phrase "Chasing the Light" first appeared in "Lushan Ballad." Its meaning symbolizes the pursuit of light and the pursuit of a good spirit. Face the sun and obtain warmth and the power to grow; chase the light and escape the shadows to shorten the distance to the sun. When we face all kinds of haze, let us break through the haze and chase the light.

The designers of the Fashion College of Shanghai Shanda College have conducted in-depth research, active thinking, and design creation around the theme of graduation design. Whether it is market-oriented ready-to-wear design or cutting-edge exploration of fashion style design works, the details of silhouette design, fabric selection, color matching, tailoring methods, and craftsmanship reflect a relatively solid academic practice and innovative results.

The collision of fashion and culture and the integration of clothing and art were displayed in an all-round and three-dimensional way on the show floor of Consinee Shanghai Center. In addition to fashion-sensitive clothing works, there were also dazzling body paintings showing fashion characteristics. The patterns were tailor-made, and the clothing craftsmanship was exquisite, which was greatly appreciated by the audience.

The knitted series of works has been continuously polished by both school and enterprise in recent years, showing maturity and stability without losing its modern and avant-garde feel. All works are made by student designers on the machine at the "SIFEC Knitting Design Talent Training Base."
